Austin Kaylor, 20, from Richmond, Kentucky, USA, contacted his own family claiming that he was kidnapped and told them to pay a $150 (£105) ransom so he won't be killed.

On Monday 28th March, Austin Kaylor impersonated his kidnappers and posted a ransom note through his families door, which read that he was being held hostage on Ballard Drive and if they did not give them the $150 that they were asking for he will be killed.

Austin's family contacted the police soon after they received the ransom note. The police investigated the kidnapping and found Austin sitting at home without any of his kidnappers present. When Austin saw the police he tried to escape by running away but was caught by the police and arrested.
He told the police that he made up the story so he could spend the ransom money on drugs. He was placed in a detention centre where he was bailed out of soon after.
Austin Kaylor has been charged with falsely reporting an incident, disorderly conduct and theft.
